When I first started writing the AnArt4Life blog 7 years ago you advised me to do it daily if I wanted to attract and keep a large audience. With my team we managed to send out a daily post for 6 of those years but then the daily demand became too great to maintain. What do you advise now as a recommended number of posts per week to attract and maintain follwers?
I remember this conversation - you asked how many people visit my website and the answer wasn’t many. When you asked how to improve it, I suggested posting more often, maybe even daily. Your reaction? “WHAT? HOW ON EARTH DO YOU EXPECT ME TO DO THAT?!”
We then talked about the blog’s purpose and mapped out a simple content schedule:
- Monday: a tip.
- Tuesday: a motivation.
- Wednesday: a thought.
- Thursday: a longer post.
- Friday: something you’ve read.
You started doing this and as time passed, people noticed, offered to help and you built a team of content writers. Today, while posts are less frequent, the blog has thousands of posts and draws in thousands of visitors each month - it’s incredible to see how it’s grown over the years!
It feels like we might be revisiting that same question now, and as always, it comes back to purpose. The previous blog aimed to share a love of art, while this new one reflects your continuing journey as an artist.
Personally, I’d suggest posting weekly, as long as you have something genuinely engaging that you know will resonate with your audience - but ultimately, you know them best.
Therefore, as a suggestion start with weekly posts and monitor clicks, subscriptions, comments and purchases. Your new audience will embark on an engagement journey, moving from awareness through consideration, purchase, retention and loyalty. To understand them try and map what they do against the phase of their journey with you.
With this new blog watch, learn what works best and make changes as required.
This time around, you have the benefit of hindsight and experience.
I too remember that day and how wonderfully supportive you were in your encouragement to get me “on board” in a journey of writing a blog. And I must say writing the blog has been one of the highlights of my retirement and as I now turn back to being more active in my own artistic ventures commencing with building a new website to showcase my paintings I find myself thinking - “How will I attract people to my new site which is just about me and my works”. I now that a couple of the heartbroken subscribers to AnArt4Life blog which saw its last post uploaded on Saturday will join the new site. But they will be disappointed I am sure If this new site is just about my paintings. But more about this later. I like your content schedule and might attach this to annenewman.studio at some point. But not yet, first the new site has to look the very best I can create with your experti guidance!!
